Member, State Bar of Michigan, Livingston County Bar Association and Genesee County Bar Association Member of the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Certified in Elder Mediation Past Family Court Referee and Mediator for Genesee County
Past Member and Chairperson, Green Oak Township Zoning Board of Appeals “I am devoted to handling each client's legal matters with the same expertise and personal attention that I would seek for myself or my own family." Denise Couling passionately believes in finding the most private, personalized way to produce excellent legal outcomes for her clients, which includes empowering them to begin building the foundation for a better future. She is equally passionate about educating clients on the tremendous potential of mediation as a smart, extremely effective and affordable approach in family law and other matters. In her practice, Denise has handled hundreds of family law matters for the Genesee County Family Court and maintained an active role in representing businesses and real estate concerns. She is a 20-year resident of Livingston County, former chairperson and member of the Green Oak Township Zoning Board of Appeals, and a contributing author for Michigan Residential Real Estate Transactions, published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. A mother of two, Denise understands the demands her clients face in balancing careers while raising children in a complex world. As a family court referee, she bore the substantial responsibility of conducting private interviews with children at the center of custody and parenting time disputes. As a result, she is uniquely capable of guiding clients as they address the foremost issue of all: protecting the needs and interests of their children and, often, their extended families as they look to the future. Denise is a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where she received the Book Award for legal writing. She earned her undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science with highest distinction from the University of Michigan, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was the university’s Harry S. Truman Scholarship nominee. To schedule a confidential consultation, call (734) 994-3000 or e-mail
