Karen S. Sendelbach

Karen S. Sendelbach Because she believes that nothing is more fundamental and important to a person than their family, Karen S. Sendelbach has dedicated her career to family law. Karen has experience representing clients at all levels of the judicial system, from mediation and other informal dispute resolution through the trial and appellate levels.

Karen is frequently sought out as a lecturer on family issues for both professionals and the public. Committed to resolving difficult family issues as early as possible, and because she believes that clients who understand the law are better able to make decisions regarding their situation, she is a lecturer for teen parents through local teen parenting programs, as well as with court-sponsored SMILE programs. Karen has completed the guardian ad litem training, which qualifies her to represent children during contentious family law litigation.

Respected by her colleagues, Karen has been elected Chairperson of the Family Law Council of the State Bar of Michigan, where she represents all of the family law attorneys in Michigan.  She also served as the chairperson of its' Amicus Curiae committee. In this capacity, she wrote several legal briefs to both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court on behalf of the family law attorneys in the State of Michigan. She is a past president of the Washtenaw County Bar Association’s Family Law Section. Karen also serves as a member of the Michigan Bar Associations Attorney Discipline Board.

Active in her community, Karen has served on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Justice Center in Detroit, Michigan, a domestic violence shelter. She also worked as an attorney for Oakland Livingston Legal Aid and serves in a volunteer capacity for the Board of Advisors for the Great Lakes Invitational Conference Association, a Model United Nations and Domestic issues conference for high school students from Michigan and around the world.

Karen is a cum laude graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law in Syracuse, New York, where she received many academic honors, including the National Association of Women Lawyer’s Outstanding Woman Law Student of Syracuse University, the Justinian Honor Society and the American Jurisprudence award for Jurisprudence of Criminal Justice. Karen has also served as an editor of the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce. During her undergraduate education at James Madison College at Michigan State University, Karen was honored with an MSU Outstanding Senior Award.
